I just got back from vacation so didn't see your posting till now. What do you mean by "felt discs"? What is the particle size of the diamond? What are you using for a lubricant? Mixtures of H2O2 and NH4OH will etch silver alloys very rapidly. You might be mistaking an over-etch condition for no etch.
