In my opinion, 25 µm is way too coarse. We usually go all the way to 0.05 µm. 1 µm is fine. 3 µm are occasionally acceptable, depending on what you are looking for.

With lapping, it might be somewhat cumbersome to change abrasive often. However, using one fine size will take long time from machined surface to finish. I hope someone with lapping experience come to offer opinion. Lapping has a different material removal mechanism.

If metallographic grinder/polisher is not available, you can always do it the old way, by hand. Buy some grinding papers, polishing cloths, and abrasives.
