Yes, the labs report included SEM/EDS spectra but those labs told us that the results are approximated. Technical information states that aluminum alloy with = or > 0.5% Mg can make spinel but it is very difficult to form spinel with less than 0.2% Mg.
A director of Metallurgical Analyzers from ABB (vendors of PoDFA, PREFILL etc.) told us that there is an optical difference between Al2O3 and MgAl2O4 unfortunately he did not mention the difference. ABB personnel came to our plant on 1-28-10 to offer equipment to determine molten aluminum cleanliness.
